Chambers and Linscott Make the Most of Chaotic F4 Weekend at Road America

May 19, 2021

Shift Up Now Athletes Chloe Chambers and Emily Linscott competed in rounds four, five and six of the F4 United States Championship on May 16-17, 2021 at Road America for the second event of the season.

Both Chambers, driving the No. 8 for Future Star Racing, and Linscott in the No. 99 for Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport, ran in the top ten during practice and had their sights set on their first top-ten qualifying run of the year. Unfortunately, a mechanical failure took Linscott out of the session on lap three and put her 22nd on the starting grid.

A transponder issue resulted in uncounted laps for Chambers in her qualifying effort, and a 20th-place starting position.

Race one proved to be unique, with only one green-flag lap. Both racers managed to advance during that lap and qualify higher for race two. However, the competition would later be deemed a non-race due to a lack of green flag laps, forcing Chambers and Linscott to start race two in the same spot as race one.

A first-lap incident in the Kink for race two caught Chambers and, despite not being the cause of the contact, she was unable to set a time in the race. This once again sent her to the back of the starting grid for race three.

Following the red flag from that incident, Linscott took part in a four-lap sprint to the checkered flag. She moved up to P16 with the 14th-fastest lap, and earned a P14 spot on the starting grid for the final race. Linscott would later move up to P13 after another racer was assessed a penalty.

In race three, Linscott advanced to P12 by the second lap and P11 by the third. When a car ahead spun coming onto the front straight, she took evasive action to avoid the contact but was collected by another driver who was trying to avoid the incident, ending her day prematurely.

Starting from the back of the grid, Chambers focused forward and methodically passed her way up the field showing great pace and setting the fifth-fastest lap. She earned a P11 finish, just one place outside the points.

Looking ahead, Chambers and Linscott will head to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on June 25-27 for the next rounds of the F4 United States Championship.
