Shift Up Now is proud to announce that Indianapolis-headquartered OrthoIndy has pledged its support of women in motorsport by establishing a training fund, in addition to joining as a Corporate Member.
The training fund is aimed at helping Athletes be in the best shape possible to compete in motorsports, and helping cover training costs while recovering in the event of injury.
Shift Up Now Athlete Sabre Cook will be one of the first beneficiaries of the fund. Having undergone surgery at OrthoIndy early in 2022, Cook is now able to begin training in a motorsport-specific environment again as she prepares to return to racing.
"Going through an injury is challenging for any athlete, but once I came under OrthoIndy's care I finally felt more at ease,” said Cook. “I knew they were some of the best at what they do and I was confident that following their guidance would help me get back to racing.
“Everyone at OrthoIndy has been so supportive through this whole process. The fact that they're now joining Shift Up Now shows how much they care about giving their athletes the resources to successfully return back to their sport."
As the official orthopedic provider to the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever, OrthoIndy has a rich history of athlete support in the greater Indianapolis area. Specific to motorsport, OrthoIndy is the primary choice for Indianapolis-based racers with orthopedic injuries and the official orthopedic provider of Andretti Autosport.
Shift Up Now Manager and seven-time Indianapolis 500 competitor Pippa Mann went to OrthoIndy for surgery to repair a displaced fracture in 2010. She credits the Ortho Indy team for being back behind the wheel just over two weeks after her surgery, and went on to earn several podiums, one race win and a top-five finish in the Indy Lights Championship.
OrthoIndy then partnered with Mann for three consecutive Indianapolis 500 campaigns, from 2017 through 2019.
“The team at OrthoIndy have been friends of mine ever since my hand surgery in 2010,” said Mann. “Seven years later, I persuaded them to join me as partners at the Indianapolis 500, and carried their logo on the cockpit of my car for three years.
“Now, I am proud to welcome them to Shift Up Now as one of our Corporate Members. I love the fact that we’re working together to create a training fund for our Athletes. This helps them be better prepared for race weekends, and less likely to suffer injury, should something go wrong.”
“This partnership with Shift Up Now is an exciting extension of OrthoIndy’s support for the motorsports community,” said Dr. Edward Hellman, Board President for OrthoIndy. “These athletes are truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see what the next season has in store for these talented women.”
