Shift Up Now fans and supporters, it's time for another round of our “Meet the Athlete” series!
Our goal is to tell the Athletes’ stories in a fun Q&A format, so you can get to know each one. That way, you’ll have even more reason to cheer for them, and show your support by being a Shift Up Now Member.
So without further ado, meet Sabré Cook! Then check out all the details about Sabré's upcoming test days at three different racetracks, and how you can experience these first-of-its-kind VIP events.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was very young, I wanted to be a veterinarian. Then by age 13 I knew I wanted to be a racecar driver. At age 16, engineering was added in.
Where and how did you get started in racing?
My father used to race motocross and super cross professionally. He and my mother did not want me racing motorcycles so they allowed us to get into karting instead.
Describe how you progressed through your early days to where you are now.
I started karting at eight years old, and progressed through the classes on a regional, national, and global stage, winning 14 championships in total. I never knew if I'd have the chance to become a racecar driver because of the large budget needed to start.
Finally, at almost 23 years old, I had a sponsor put me in a Spec Racer Ford at Summit Point in SCCA for my first ever race. From SCCA I progressed up the open wheel later first doing a couple races in the Road to Indy (USF2000), US F4, USF Pro 2000. More consistent seat time and opportunity came when I qualified for W Series and remained there 2019-2021. I also took any one-off races I was offered a seat in or was able to raise sponsorship to do - WRL, NLS at the Nurburgring, Porsche Sprint Challenge, Mazda MX5 Cup, etc.
Unfortunately I suffered a severe injury in 2022 and took a year off racing. I returned full-time in 2023 after winning the Deluxe Kellymoss Female Driver Shootout to earn the chance to race in Porsche Carrera Cup NA as the first woman to do so. Since 2023, I have found stability and a place to grow my brand and my skills as a driver in Porsche Carrera Cup NA thanks to my amazing partners and Porsche Motorsports NA.
What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced?
Two things come to mind. First, I have consistently faced immense financial stress to find the funds to keep competing on track. Second, my big injuries in W Series in 2021, and then again in 2023 that ended my season early.
What are some of your greatest achievements so far, or the things you’re most proud of?
I was the first female to win a shifter kart national championship and the first female to qualify for a KZ World Cup. I’m also proud to have been part of Team USA at the World Finals 2015, the first female to race and highest finishing female in Porsche Carrera Cup NA. Qualifying for and racing in W Series, and winning in NLS at the Nurburgring in 2021 are also on my list.
What are you most looking forward to this upcoming year?
Continuing to grow and improve my on track results and business.
What’s your favorite hobby, or way to spend your free time, outside of racing?
I love being active with activities like hiking, biking, and camping.
What’s your “cheat meal” of choice?
Ooooo so tough. Chick-fil-A spicy chicken sandwich with fries and ice cream.
Where are you racing next?
I’m headed to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for round six of the 2026 Porsche Carrera Cup North America season on September 18-20, 2026.
